In 2005, Carmen relocated from her native Northern Italy to California, and since has spoken and offered her Traveling Learning Center at numerous conferences including Yuri’s Night, the California Homeschooling Conference, Spirit Rock Meditation Center, the Transformative Education Forum, Green Festival San Francisco, and the Green Kid’s Conference.

Carmen co-created and served as the pedagogical director of two private schools in Europe. She was hired by the leadership of the “Kinderhaus Miteinander” in Wörgl, Austria, to re-create their school learning environment and rewrite their mission statement. Her work helped this alternative school to be awarded its initial accreditation. Working with a group of parents in her hometown of Merano, Italy, in 2004, she co-created a thriving alternative school for grades 1-12.

After finishing her degree in German and English linguistics/literature/didactics, Carmen took a Montessori teacher training with Claus-Dieter Kaul, founder of the “Institut für Ganzheitliches Lernen” (Institute for Holistic Learning) in Munich. As part of a wave of European “enhanced” Montessori teachers, Carmen studied with Rebeca and Mauricio Wild, and draws knowledge from Emmi Pikler, Magda Gerber, Elfriede Hengstenberg, Joseph Chilton Pearce, and other educators and researchers of child development. A self-directed learner, she studied a wide range of educational philosophies including Waldorf, Reggio Emilia, Froebel, and democratic education.
